Delta govt seeks fair play in PHCN’s privatisation

The Delta State government has again called for equity in the privatisaton process of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria(PHCN) to enable states which have invested much in the power sector benefit from it.
It stated that in selling off its assets in Edo region which comprises Delta, Edo, Ekiti and Ondo states, the Federal Government should be considerate enough to allow them be part of the process.
The state Commissioner for Power and Energy Mr Charles Emetulu, speaking to Saturday Tribune in Asaba, said as the first state under PHCN, Benin Zone, it is interested in what happens to the Benin Distribution company.”
According to him, “We have floated a consortium where we have a minimal share and which gives us a voice, but the Federal Government is telling us they are selling to whoever we don’t know.”
While faulting the processes adopted in the privatisation, the commissioner said the state government had invested much in PHCN by taking electricity to communities.
