Chairman of the Federal Government’s Subsidy Re-investment Programme (SURE-P) Management Board and former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade has asked the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to be more proactive in the regulation of Nigeria’s emerging power sector.
Kolade, who spoke at the December edition of NERC’s monthly “Distinguished Guest” lecture series in Abuja noted that NERC could afford to ignore absolute corporate governance practice in a sector as sensitive and demanding as Nigeria’s Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
In his presentation entitled: “Ethics and Professionals” Kolade stated that the responsibility of ensuring best practices across Nigeria’s electricity supply value chain was inherent in NERC’s establishing Act and as such must be lived out by the Commission in discharge of its responsibilities to all stakeholders in the power sector.
