THE Federal Government and Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) received a hard knock Monday as Nigerians scored them in power generation and distribution in 2012.
The Chairman, Coalition of Residence and Business Associations of Nigeria, Abayomi Daudu said the performance of the PHCN was “abysmally low” in 2012, even as he lamented the outrageous bills charged by the company for services not rendered.
Daudu, who was specifically irked about the prevailing situation in the power sector, scored the PHCN low and bemoaned the poor attitude of electricity workers towards service delivery.
“I will score them three per cent. It seems as if they give us one hour supply to bill us for a whole month. The power supply is horrible. It is true that there was improvement in supply between June and August, but from September, the story changed and we continued to live in complete darkness,” he lamented.
The National Coordinator, Electricity Consumer Enlightenment Initiative, Ganiyu Jimoh Makanjoula, believed that the poor performance of the utility company in the year was caused by the power play that nearly mared the Federal Government’s privatization exercise.
“The Federal Government did not allow the PHCN to perform, in the sense that the power sector reform is not clearly implemented, so the PHCN is confused and does not know the way forward
