Chairman of Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP), Mr. Beks Dagogo-Jack has explained that Nigeria could not attain the 5000 megawatts (MW) electricity generation target by the end of December 2012 owing to repairs jobs on key electricity installations.
He however insisted that the country was making progress in its power generation and distribution.
“There were projects behind these projections and if we don’t have those projects in place, we cannot have power and so if you were supposed do a particular line that was overloaded, you would have to deliver it in time and some of those projects slipped and didn’t come when we wanted them, they didn’t vanish but are behind schedule and so we will not have them now but later,” Dagogo-Jack said.
He said the country has made progress in the area of power generation. “What we actually generate is about what power Ghana and countries like Niger Republic but that is not to say that we are comparing ourselves, our needs are not alike and we know our challenges, it is just to tell you that we are on the right track to making this reform come real.”
Dagogo-Jack also urged the new supervisory board of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to help the TCN achieve the milestones set for it in Nigeria’s emerging power sector.
