FG instructs NERC to start importation of meters

FG instructs NERC to start importation of meters

The roll out of electricity meters is set to receive a major boost as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory commission (NERC), gives the go ahead to distribution companies to commence implementation of an alternative funding scheme that will see to the rapid deployment of electricity meters.
This is coming at the heels of a presentation made yesterday by Dr. Sam Amadi – Chairman/CEO of NERC, to the Presidential Action Committee on Power (PACP). The PACP has agreed with the recommendations made by NERC, and has asked for the immediate implementation of this scheme known as “Credit Advance Payment for Meter Installation – CAPMI”.
The scheme was designed as an alternative for customers who are willing to advance money to their distribution companies for speedy installation of prepayment meters. One of the top priorities of the Commission is ensuring that the huge number of unmetered customers is reduced as rapidly as possible, and within the shortest possible time. By doing so, the menace of “crazy billing” and other commercial losses will be greatly curtailed.
