Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo has promised to draw a
programme for the enhancement of the Nigerian content in the power sector,
following the privatisation of major electricity firms by the government.
Disclosing this at a meeting with principal officials of the power sector,
Nebo said the programme to be drawn by the National Power Training Institute of
Nigeria (NAPTIN) is to produce highly skilled power sector professionals to man
the various positions in the sector.
He noted that thousands of Nigerians would be needed urgently in the power
sector revolution, stressing that NAPTIN is expected to equip these Nigerians
with necessary skills needed to drive the energy sector in line with
international best practices.
While proffering solution to the high level of break down, due to archaic
maintenance culture, the Minister, according to a statement, said the modern
approach is through preventive maintenance which is anticipatory of major
problems before they arise.
