FG sets up c’ttee on PHCN staff severance benefits


Federal Government has set up an implementation committee on the settlement of the severance package of the staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN)
The committee, which is chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Mr. Godknows Igali, has representatives from ministries of finance and labour, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), PENCOM, auditor-general and the four PHCN labour unions.
Inaugurating the committee, Minister of State for Power, Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim Kuchi, said federal government’s was committed to the settlement of workers severance because of their relevance to the success of the power sector roadmap.
She commended the labour unions as for their courage, describing their disposition in the process leading to this feat helpful.
She assured of the government commitment to bringing the privatisation process to conclusion in no distant time.
The Minister of state for Finance, Dr. YerimaNgawa reiterated that Government would fulfil its obligations, as it cannot afford to disappoint Nigerians.
Also speaking, Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu, assured that workers would not be short changed, appealing to labour to show understanding by supporting government privatisation programme.
