After over seven months of intrigues and maneuvering, the federal government yesterday finally inaugurated a seven-man supervisory board chaired by Engr. Hamman Tukur for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The board is to among others watch over the activities of the TCN management contractors, Manitoba Hydro International of Canada.
Manitoba was contracted by the federal government at a sum of $23 million to run the TCN for a period of three years but the contract which was supposed to have commenced in September 2012, had stalled until yesterday.
TCN is one of the 18 successor companies of the unbundled Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in line with the power reform roadmap. It is responsible for wheeling power generated from the power plants to the distribution companies who now take it to consumers’ homes.
