The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mr. Emeka Wogu, has assured electricity sector workers that the unions in the power sector would still remain even after the transfer of the power facilities to private investors.
This clarification by the minister became necessary following the warnings by the sector workers under the auspices of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), that the unions would not tolerate any contract that would turn Nigerian workers to slaves in their fatherland.
The workers had expressed fear that the successor companies which will take over facilities of PHCN will not respect the nation’s constitution, especially concerning the freedom of association of workers.
