AS the Federal Government continues to grapple with the promise of stable electricity supply across the country, investigations have shown that some officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria(PHCN) and diesel dealers in Abuja have colluded to keep some business districts in the Federal Capital in perpetual darkness.
Investigations revealed that locations housing federal establishments are mostly affected, with diesel dealers said to be reaching out to both staffers of the agencies and officials of the PHCN to enhance their business.
Sources told the Nigerians Tribune that diesel dealers promptly pay some PHCN staff to keep electricity out of particular areas, while they also reach out to staff of federal government’s agencies who would help push their files at the respective agencies.
The idea according to sources is that the more the amount due to the diesel sellers at the end of the month, the better for the agency staff who would also benefit from the bill.
Investigations revealed that some shopping plazas actually go into partnership arrangements with PHCN to pay a certain amount to guarantee electricity supply but that where such arrangements are not in place, the entire area is left in darkness for the entire working hours.
