Former Minister of Power and Chairman of Geometric Power Limited, Prof. Barth Nnaji, in an interview with select journalists in Abuja affirmed that the company’s soon-to-be launched integrated power project at Osisioma in Aba will enhance business prospects in the city. Chineme Okafor was there. Excerpts:

Could you briefly talk about the integrated power project at Aba?
The project in Aba was motivated by the desire of the people who are in the industrial and commercial area to have more reliable electricity, and this came about by the visit of the Minister of Finance during President Obasanjo’s time, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who took the then President of the World Bank, James Wolfesohn to Aba to see then Ariaria small and medium scale industries.
As you well know, there are over 50,000 small and medium scale industries in that place and they were asked what really their major challenges were to which they said electricity. They said they can produce seamless products and reduce inconsistencies in the number of products they produce if they had stable electricity supply. And perhaps, it is clear that if you want to produce for export, you have to make your products to have certain qualities and consistencies but they cannot do that now.
