PHCN power station

Workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria have said they will not allow the privatisation of the power sector until the Federal Government pays their outstanding entitlements for the last one year.
The outstanding entitlements, they said, was not captured in the approved N400bn for the settlement of their severance package.
The PHCN employees told our correspondent that they had been working for the past 12 months and the period was not included in the N400bn approved as their severance package.
They spoke under the aegis of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies and the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees.
The President-General, SSAEAC, Mr. Bede Opara, said the workers had expected the government to commence the payment of the severance package last year.
He said, “As a matter of fact, by the time we signed the agreement in December last year, we were expecting that payment would start within one month from that time. But it dragged for so long as you have seen.
