THE Ministry of Power has a history of being manned by professors, at
least in view of the qualification of the immediate past supervisor of
the critical Ministry, Professor Barth Nnaji and the incumbent,
Professor Chinedu Nebo. The current landlord of the Ministry gave a
diagnosis of the disease that made the power sector come down with
prostate cancer. A critical look at what he told Nigerians through the
newsmen revealed nothing new in the excuses that have been fashioned
into a template to rationalise the ‘mishandling’ of the sector.
Professor Nebo spoke at the inauguration of the chairman of Transmission
Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mr Ibrahim Waziri, in Abuja, on Tuesday, and
was also corned by some journalists for an interview.
When a professor professes, especially ex cathedra, he must have
spoken from a position of authority, knowledge, wisdom and
understanding. Coming from the Ivory Tower, a professor knows the
missing link in the critical nexus between the gown and town, an
interdependency that has seen sane countries climb higher in human
development ladder.
