Outage looms in Bayelsa as PHCN facilities are submerged

A MAJOR blackout is looming in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital as the facilities of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), have been destroyed by floods.
The development which has become worrisome to PHCN management had led to the closure of some electrical installations in some parts of the state.
Also, the state-owned Niger Delta University located at Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Council, could be forced to shut down as the area has been taken over by water.
It was gathered that the PHCN, in its preliminary report, disclosed that over 50 transformers which had been submerged in some parts of the state had been shut down. 10 others had been partially disconnected from PHCN’s Gbarantoru main station in Yenagoa Local Council.
