House Decry Non-Utilisation Of Budget By Power Ministry

Nigeria’s House of Representatives committee on power has expressed dismay at the inability of the Ministry of power to utilise up to 50 percent of its budgetary allocation.

The Committee also discovered that of the over N75.464billion allocated to the ministry, only N34.765 was released and a paltry N19.763 utilised by the ministry.

The Committee Chairman, Mr. Patrick Ikhariale wondered why despite the several challenges facing the sector, the ministry was unable to utilise up to 40 percent of its total allocation.

According to Mr. Ikhriale, “what it means is that the ministry does not need such an amount of money because if they need the money, they would have done something about it.”

The Committee Chairman lamented Nigeria’s power situation saying “"With the way the ministry is going on power sector it appears that they are going towards the near collapse of the power. We are being made like a fool when like three months ago somebody was tell Nigerians that money had been released."
