NIPP chief suspends leave, meets with contractors

• NERC gives govs up to Dec 31 for electricity assets
THE Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), the special intervention vehicle handling the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), Mr. James Olotu, has temporarily suspended his yearly leave to meet with the contractors handling the NIPP projects.
The Nigerian firms handling some of the NIPP power plant sites have been accused of deploying delay tactics in the delivery of their jobs, hoping that such moves would enable them to make more money from government in the future. The Guardian learnt that the trick is only peculiar to Nigerian contractors on the scheme, as most of the sites in the hands of foreign contractors are on course with minimal hitches.
Olotu, whose leave, The Guardian learnt, is due to expire early January, summoned the contractors to Abuja where he sought to know the new reasons for the delay. After listening to the contractors, he tasked them to brace up in delivering their projects, as government would not entertain any further excuses.
