Commission warns distribution firms against meters charges

 
IN line with its mandate, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has warned distribution firms against charging electricity consumers money for meters.
Each official of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) or distribution companies offering services to consumers are now required to wear an identity card for easy identification. NERC added that officials of distribution companies, who collect money from consumers for meters, would have the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to contend with.
The commission has also directed all distribution companies in the country to strengthen their Customer Complaints Units (CCU) and make such offices functional and in tandem with global best practices. NERC has also reeled out measures to closely monitor these units and ensure that they meet laid down rules.
