Blame us, not Jonathan, if 10,000MW December target fails, says PTFP boss

 

 

In the event that the 10,000 megawatts (MW) target which the Federal Government plans to achieve by December this year is not realised, Nigerians should blame the Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP), the ministry of power and the other technicians who came up with the forecast, said Beks Dagogo-Jack, chairman, PTFP.

Last month, Zainab Kuchi, the minister of state for Power, in a presentation to the Presidential Action Committee on Power (PACP), had said that government plans to grow Nigeria’s power generation capacity to 10,000MW by the fourth quarter of 2013 by diversifying the nation’s energy mix to include other renewable sources of energy.

Dagogo-Jack, who spoke at the official commissioning of Tejuosho 1x15 MVA, 33/11KV Injection sub-station of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Lagos last week, said: “The target was set for the President by technical people like me, people who are in the business of electricity. So, if it is not achieved, we cannot blame the president; it is me, minister of power, all the technicians, technocrats who came up with the document and told the president that it can be achieved. Hold us accountable, not President Jonathan.”

Continuing, he said the forecast are realisable, although they are not easy targets, adding that they are determined to work towards their attainment.
