Nigerians are sceptical over the slow pace of the ongoing power reforms and say they need to be speeded up. This was revealed in a survey recently conducted by Phillips Consulting Limited, on the impact of the ongoing power sector reforms. The survey was conducted from December 15, 2012 to January 31, 2013 and responses were gathered via an online questionnaire.
The survey took the views of 412 people from 26 states, with the majority of respondents being from Lagos State (64 percent). There was also significant participation from Abuja (8 percent), Rivers (8 percent), Ogun (4 percent) and Oyo (3 percent) states.
According to the survey results 59 percent of respondents say they were disappointed with the pace of ongoing reforms, with 33 percent saying there has been no improvement in power supply. Twenty-six percent also said the situation has actually deteriorated.
The other 41 percent are however satisfied with the reforms (38 percent of this category believe there has been a noticeable improvement in power supply during the period, 3 percent say power supply has been excellent).
About 9 percent of respondents say they have no faith in the reforms, 50 percent are not sure of what to expect, and 41 percent are confident that the reforms will eventually improve the state of power supply in the country.
