Since the devolution of the former National Electric Power Authority by the Federal Government to new entrepreneurship some years ago, it appears not much has been done to make life more comfortable for the workers who had served under the old management and retired.
As an example, many pensioners across the country who retired between 2010 and 2011 have not till now received their gratuities despite persistent demands from the authority to pay them. Instead, delay tactics are being employed to vindicate their action.
The untold hardship being experienced has compelled many of them to withdraw their children and wards from schools because of their inability to cope with their expenses.
Similarly, those of them who hire houses have been ejected by their landlords and landladies because of enormous debts owed them. Other responsibilities at home also serve as an index to their sufferings.
But I do not think that this is the ideal thing to do for the workers who had devoted most of their lives to working strenuously and conscientiously for the progress of the company and the country in general.
