The Federal Government has stated the need for ministries and agencies responsible for the water dams to collaborate in the management of the dams in order to use them to generate reasonable quantity of electricity in the country.
The newly-appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Mr. Godknows Igala, who made the call shortly after he assumed office, expressed regrets over the seeming idleness of the water dams, which he noted could be employed in power generation and agricultural irrigation.
Igali noted that it was sad enough to see idle dams that had not been put to optimal use across the country, pointing out that, if well-managed, these dams could be used to generate reasonable quantity of power that would help boost Nigeria’s electricity generation.
He however noted that effective management of the dams could only be achieved when all agencies of government that are linked to their management work in unity.
