Irrespective of recent challenges encountered by the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in its 18-month obligatory metering plan, Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has stated that there is no going back government’s decision to provide adequate metering coverage of eligible electricity consumers across the country.

Nebo in his remarks at the recent meeting of stakeholders on the new consumer metering scheme, which NERC recently initiated as an alternative to its 18-month plan, said the availability of functional meters across the country would afford Nigeria reliable revenue collection system, while providing consumers with transparent records of their electricity consumption.

The minister, who was represented by the Head of Market Operator at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mr. Evarestus Mogbo, also stressed the importance of efficient metering facilities to the growth of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
He said: “100 percent metering is compulsory. Due to a few issues that were not anticipated, we are now finding a way to sort it out. We want to sort it out to move forward in our match to reform the power sector”.
