Despite the massive construction of new transmission and distribution infrastructure across the country, electricity supply has not yet shown serious signs of improvement in recent days, THISDAY investigation has revealed.
This development, it was learnt, is amid claims of improved generation by the authorities, which do not translate to improvement in the supply to homes and businesses.
THISDAY gathered that in recent days, authorities in the power sector were said to have made bogus claims of improvement in generation, saying that on February 28, 2013, the country recorded a new national record in highest energy supply of 4,130.325megawatts per hour (mwh/h), which it also translated to 99,127.81 megawatts hour (mwh).
It was also gathered that the claims by the Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP) on the country having the highest generation level on February 28 were not a true reflection of the power situation as evidenced in epileptic supply to homes and businesses.
The task force had earlier claimed that with improved gas supply and better management of water, the country had attained a new energy peak of 97,749.11 megawatt hour, representing about 4,000 megawatts on December 4, 2012.
