President Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday in Lagos said the Federal
Government is currently studying a proposal to restrict importation of
electricity generating sets into the country soon.
The move, the President said at the fifth Academy for Entrepreneurial
Studies, Nigeria (AES), will be part of declaring a state of emergency in the
nation’s electricity sector.
The President, who was represented by Works Minister, Mike Onolememen,
expressed belief that soon, electricity problem will be a thing of the past,
because the administration has put all necessary measures to achieve this
goal.
Also, he praised the efforts of the AES in repositioning the youths of
Nigeria rthrough her ‘Operation 500 Students-Entrepreneurs Programme’, where 500
students in each tertiary institution in Nigeria are trained on leadership and
entrepreneurship free of charge in collaboration with the school authorities
every year.
The President said his administration lays emphasis on entrepreneurship and
human capital development as it is his administration’s determination to reduce
the level of unemployment in the nation.
“That is why the government places much emphasis on the number of jobs each
project or contract it embarks on would create,” he added, noting that Nigerians
are enterprising people who would excel in whatever legitimate venture under an
enabling environment.
