The Federal Government is optimistic of handing over the 15 Privatised Electricity Generation Companies, Gencos and Electricity Distribution Companies, Discos to preferred bidders in October as it has paid severance benefit to over 50 per cent of labour.
Investigations over the weekend showed that the remaining 50 per cent may be paid in the coming weeks in order to pave way for the handing over of the privatised companies.
The Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Power, Mrs. Kande Daniel, who confirmed the development in a telephone interview stated that the Federal Government is committed to completing the payment.
She said: “The government has reached an irreversible point in the privatisation of the GENCOs and DISCOs and cannot afford to relent. Daniel maintained that the exercise is a success and other nations have started looking at the nation as a model for the privatisation of their governmentowned companies because of high involvement of many global giants and huge funds deplored to procure the electricity companies.
