October 1 handover: 40, 000 PHCN staff ready for sack- NUEE

Proceeds from PHCN sales to fund N339b workers pay-off deficit – Nebo

By Adeola Yusuf/Lagos
The Nigerian union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), said at the weekend that its over 40, 000 members who are workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) are not afraid of sack.
What is important now, they stressed is for the Federal Government to pay their full entitlements, instead of threatening them with sack.
Minister of power, Professor Chinedu Nebo has said that the government would begin the handover of the PHCN to new owners by October 1 and Secretary General of NUEE, Joe Ajaero who stated the workers stand on the matter in an interview maintained that the setup of rationalisation committee for the sack does not make sense.
He said: “When we started negotiation, they came up with a committee on rationalisation. We told them not to waste their time with that committee because we would not serve in the committee since every worker is going. So, if everybody is going why form a committee to sack few people? So, the committee has been wasting time because it does not make sense.
