The Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria has restated its support for the privatisation process of the country’s power sector, saying that the move will ensure that the private investors provide value for money to electricity consumers.
This was the thrust of the national meeting/conference of LECAN hosted by its Lagos chapter at the National Educational Research and Development Council, Lagos.
In his address, the National President, LECAN, Chief Dele Akintola, said that the new dawn in the electricity industry would make life better for electricity consumers, and that the taking over of power generation and distribution by the private investors was long overdue.
Akintola stressed that the decay in the power sector as experienced for some decades now, had shown a level of mismanagement in the handling of the sector by government officials.
He stated that the industry would, in the shortest possible time, experience a total turnaround in the hands of the private investors.
While advising the general public to exercise some patience with the private investors, Akintola explained that the transition would come with some initial itch, but maintained that it would be for a very short period.
