Chika Amanze-Nwachukuwrites that last Tuesday’s commercial bid opening for PHCN successor distribution companies (discos) was followed by approbations and disapprovals
Since the winners of bids for the 10 electricity distribution companies (discos) emerged last Tuesday, stakeholders in the power sector have continued to express divergent views on the transparency or otherwise of the entire privatisation process. Discordant tunes have continued to trail the selection of preferred bidders for the Power Holding Company (PHCN) successor companies, particularly the discos.
Whereas some entities that lost out have rejected the process in its entirety, saying it was full of fraud, many others, including those who won the bids have adjudged the exercise as very transparent. Of particular concern however, was a recent allegation by some of the stakeholders that some of the entities who participated in the exercise were privy to the results, even before the commercial bid opening.
