Electricity workers under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Electricity employees (NUEE) have given the federal government a two-week ultimatum to address outstanding labour issues relating to the privatization of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) or risk a nationwide black out.
The union also accused the government of insincerity in its handling of labour issues in the privatisation exercise and that government had last week deceitfully announced to the public that it has begun payment of severance packages to its members.
The move was a deceptive one meant to deceive the preferred bidders of PHCN assets into believing that all was well with labour related issues to get them to sign the various industry agreements.
According to the communiqué issued by the union after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the weekend in Abuja, the union noted that government was bandying fictitious figures of staff terminal benefits in disregard of an inconclusive audit by an independent consulting firm, Alexander Forbes
