No technical jargon or policy statement of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission could cure the pessimism in Mr. Dele Akinlawon, an Abuja resident.
Having been trying without success to get a pre-paid meter since August last year, he reached the conclusion that the waiting game may never end.
However, he hates to remember that at the end of every month, marketers from Power Holding Company of Nigeria will serve him another N17,000 bill for his two-bedroom apartment.
Power Talkback found that the situation of Akinlawon is a reflection of the current condition of many electricity consumers, who are yearning for a migration from post-paid to pre-paid metering.
Customers are worried that one month after NERC announced a review in its earlier PPM policy saying customers would now pay for the PPMs, nothing has been heard of how much they are to pay.
Electricity customers through many letters to Power Talkback lamented their plight. On the side of distribution companies, who they said are not giving a definite word on how much to pay, and on the side of NERC, said to still be working out the modalities.
